This Privacy Policy explains how RetroWriter ("RetroWriter," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the RetroWriter app, website, and related services.

1. Who operates RetroWriter

RetroWriter is operated by RetroWriter. If you have privacy questions, contact us at keir.thomas@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use RetroWriter, we may collect the following categories of information:

  • Usage information: app interactions, feature usage, crash reports, performance logs, and diagnostic data.
  • Device and technical information: device model, operating system version, language, approximate region, app version, and similar technical details.
  • Support communications: information you send when you contact us for support or feedback.

3. How we use information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve RetroWriter.
  • To save and sync your content where those features are enabled.
  • To provide AI-assisted writing features on supported devices or integrations you choose to use.
  • To authenticate users and keep the service secure.
  • To troubleshoot bugs, monitor performance, and prevent misuse.
  • To respond to support requests, feedback, and legal obligations.

4. Google APIs and Google user data

If you connect RetroWriter to Google services, we will access only the Google data needed to provide the features you authorize. For example, this may include creating, exporting, or sharing documents with Google services when you request those actions.

We do not use data obtained from Google Workspace APIs to develop, improve, or train generalized AI or machine learning models.

We do not sell Google user data. We use Google user data only to provide or improve user-facing features that are part of RetroWriter.

5. How content is processed

RetroWriter is designed for writing and editing plain text. Your content may be processed locally on your device, through Apple or cloud storage providers you enable, and through third-party services you explicitly use, such as export, sharing, backup, or AI-assisted writing features.

If AI features are enabled, the AI processing happens on-device and is not sent to any AI providers.

6. Sharing of information

We may share information in the following limited situations:

  • With service providers who help us operate the app, hosting, analytics, backups, support, or security.
  • With integrations you choose to connect, such as cloud storage or document export providers.
  • When required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
  • As part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to applicable law.

7. Data retention

We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including providing the service, complying with legal obligations, resolving disputes, and enforcing agreements.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, including if you are in the UK, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict certain personal information, and to object to certain processing. You may also be able to disconnect third-party integrations and stop using optional AI features.

To make a privacy request, contact us at keir.thomas@gmail.com.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children's privacy

RetroWriter is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

11. International users

Your information may be processed in the UK and in other countries where our service providers operate, subject to appropriate safeguards where required by applicable law.
